Producer, Choreographer and Dancer, Farah Dato'Seri Sulaiman and her team will stage Jalan Impian - the Musical! at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Acts Centre, (KLPAC) in Sentul West under the patronage of Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dato' Seri Dr Siti Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali from 13 - 17 July 2005. The show, with an original script by Sandra Sodhy and original choreography by Farah Sulaiman, will feature nearly 50 children and young people between the ages of 8 - 18 years, alongside professional guest artistes Peter Ong, Radhi Khalid, Tony Eusoff, Omar Arif, Sabrina Hassan, and Sandra Sodhy. They will be backed by a five-piece band led by well-known musician and arranger Helen Yap.
Besides being a fund-raiser for Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Hulu Langat, Selangor, the musical aims to give young theatre enthusiasts an opportunity to develop a love for musical theatre by working with full-time theatre professionals both on and off the stage, thereby giving these children a head start in performance. The children were selected from over 200 hopefuls in open auditions in August and November 2004 where they were required to act, sing and dance. Jalan Impian is supported by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia and has been purpose-written for the children who have been selected for the show. As it is primarily in English, it aims to help promote English fluency among the participants, encourage the interest of schoolchildren in the arts, make them more confident and outgoing, and develop the whole child, in line with the Ministry of Education's plans for the children of Malaysia. Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Hulu Langat, Selangor runs solely on public donations. The success of this event will contribute greatly to its coffers, thereby ensuring that it will be able to continue with its good work in developing the abilities of the Special Children in its care. Both Farah Sulaiman and Sandra Sodhy have a wealth of experience in performance and share a belief in the talent and ability of our youth. They hold that, given the opportunity and with proper guidance and training, our youth are capable of surpassing even our wildest dreams! Farah and Sandra would like to provide a platform for the youth of today to enable them to experience what it is like to take part in a production run according to professional standards and practices, and perform (and hold their own!) alongside professionals in the field. In this way, our youth can develop a love for musical theatre as well as get a head start in the field. ### |
